Abstract

Objectives:The main aim was to find the prevalence of Internet Gaming Disorder(IGD)in children and adolescents(10-18 years old)in Saudi Arabia.Secondly,it focused on establishing how certain gaming characteristics are aggressive behaviors towards other players,and thirdly,it focused on the impact of social and demographic parameters in the formation of IGD and aggressive behavior in the adolescent population in Saudi Arabia.Methods: A cross-sectional design was utilized to evaluate a sample of adolescents who were between 10–18 years and investigate the correlation between the risks of IGD and aggressive acts. Participants were recruited through social networks Twitter,Instagram, Snapchat,WhatsApp and Telegram with an online questionnaire distributed within a period of one month.With Applying specific exclusion criteria,adolescents from different parts of Saudi Arabia were included in the study.The study employed the Internet Gaming Disorder Scale-Short Form (IGDS9-SF) and the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BPAQ)to measure the severity of IGD and aggression,respectively.Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, Mann-Whitney U tests and Poisson regression analysis. Results:Adolescents aged16 years, mean age in 5016 adolescents participated in the study.Among participants, however, the level of IGD was 10.4%, which means that at least 10 % of the adolescents in Saudi Arabia tend to exhibit IGD behaviors. The threshold for IGD was crossed by over 896 participants or 89.6%.The study found a relationship between the BPAQ score and IGD evidence, in relation to aggression.Physical aggression,verbal aggression and anger related to aggression were more pronounced amongst adolescents with IGD than those without IGD.Several key factors influencing Internet Gaming Disorder(IGD)scores, including age, gender,region of residence,internet access,gaming device ownership, family income,and financial stress. Conclusion:The results show that IGD is common among adolescents in Saudi Arabia and aggression has a strong positive correlation with the severity of IGD. This studies presented two more variables, behavior and demographics, when dealing with IGD.
