| Abstract |
Aims: Administrative workload may have detrimental effects on medical post-graduate trainee satisfaction, on capacity and quality of care. In this workshop, early career psychiatrists and trainees explore their administrative balance, identify opportunities for change, develop a personal plan - taking into account their own qualities and limitations and the work environment - and then implement and evaluate it. Methods: The workshop was developed based on the Job Demands-Resources model (JDRM) including: (1) a survey on perceptions of administrative workload; (2) a presentation on coping on the personal level (e.g., time-management) and workplace-level (e.g., dealing with institutional rules); (3) a personal plan of change during a group discussion; (4) a reflection after the session; and (5) a follow-up to evaluate after 2 months. Results: Participants will understand their own administrative balance and develop a personal plan for desired change. Conclusion: Reflection on administrative burden early in the career can affect the efficiency of training, the quality of care, and the well-being of physicians. Participation in this workshop on coping with administrative load early in the career may be a worthwhile investment in the long term. |
