Aims:
1. To assess the perceived training needs regarding BPD-A among a French-speaking population of child and adolescent psychiatrists (CAPs).
2. To evaluate the interest of these clinicians in a massive open online course (MOOC) as a relevant training modality.
Methods:
An anonymous online survey (conducted via LimeSurvey) was distributed by email to CAPs in 10 French-speaking countries. The survey comprised of 17 questions addressing professional skills and the level of confidence in managing the clinical trajectory of BPD-A. The responses were analyzed combining a descriptive and a qualitative analysis (rates, relevant thematics)
Results and conclusion:
A total of 101 participants responded to the survey (approximately 20% of the targeted population); 91% of the respondents were from France, Canada, and Switzerland; 37% of the CAPs felt unqualified to diagnose BPD-A, and more than 50% reported feeling unskilled in therapeutic interventions. The top training priorities expressed by the CAPs were:1. Diagnosing BPD-A and its disclosure 2. Outpatient follow-up. 3. Psychotherapeutic interventions.
All participants expressed interest in a MOOC lasting 10–15 hours. A mixed format, combining asynchronous and synchronous sessions, was preferred, with an emphasis on including patient or peer partners.
Therefore, there is a significant perceived need among French-speaking CAPs for specific training on BPD-A; the results encourage the development of a dedicated MOOC on the topic, incorporating all the aforementioned priorities and employing specific pedagogical approaches; training will be instrumental in empowering clinicians to effectively manage BPD-A.
