Abstract ABSTRACT Aim: In our study, it was aimed to evaluate the psychiatric findings and the factors that were found in sexual abuse cases. Materials and methods: The information given during the examination, laboratory results, information in the forensic investigation documents, social examination reports of the cases who were sent to Düzce University Faculty of Medicine Forensic Medicine Department and Düzce University Forensic Medicine Experts Board with the suspicion of sexual abuse and for which a report was prepared and other reports about these cases, prepared by our department on sexual violence, final report, criminal responsibility, drug use, competency of marriage were retrospectively reviewed. Results: The mean age of the victims was 13.20±3.62 (med: 14). 79.2% of the cases were girls, in 177 cases the child was declared statement has been taken in the police station before the first examination, 5 cases were pregnant at the time of presentation, acute traumatic findings could be detected in 13 of 207 cases who gave consent for the anogenital examination, and 71 cases had dating violence. Of the 52 cases diagnosed before the judicial process, 14 had mental retardation, 17 cases were found to be using substances in the years after the event, 20 cases were re-evaluated with the suspicion of sexual violence, 10 cases to be evaluated in terms of competency to trial and 10 cases to be evaluated in terms of competency of marriage. The number of siblings, penetration, consent at the time of the event, history of domestic violence or psychiatric diagnosis did not affect the psychiatric diagnosis after the event; it was found that being exposed to sexual assault more than once and dropping out of school increased psychiatric diagnosis after the event. Discussion and conclusion: The phenomenon of sexual abuse and the subsequent judicial process cause mental illnesses in the victims. The detection of these diseases is important both in terms of taking the necessary steps for treatment and in terms of being a medical finding within the scope of judicial prosecution.
