Abstract Previous research has identified multiple factors that influence the transgenerational transfer of violence and neglect. Among these are stress, maltreatment in one’s own childhood, depression, single-parenthood and young age at birth of the first child. Aim of our study was to complement previous taxonomies and to identify new parameters that increase the likelihood for the transfer of violence. For this purpose, we conducted a Random Forest Analysis to weight own negative childhood experiences as assessed with the ICAST (Runyan et al. 2009). In addition, we identified protective variables that prevent the continuation of violence.
