Abstract
|
The negative impact of child maltreatment (CM) on health, well-being and society is widely recognized, yet effective prevention strategies remain insufficient as the prevalence of CM has not decreased significantly. Consequently, research continues to explore CM characteristics. A closer look beyond multiplicity of CM to other aspects of CM including timing variables as well as perpetrator characteristics seems promising. Therefore, our aim was to link perpetrator characteristics with the timing aspects in order to gain a deeper understanding of specific risk constellations and their associated long-term health outcomes. For this purpose, multiple regression analyses were calculated using a representative German sample. We identify specific risk constellations for CM and their impact on health. This helps raise societal awareness and facilitating the development of targeted prevention programs aimed at reducing both the number of individuals affected and the duration of maltreatment.
