Abstract

The clinical case presents the evaluation process of an 8y.o. boy demonstrating a highly varied clinical picture with impairments in multiple domains - notable were language and thought disturbances, perceptual abnormalities, affective dysregulation, socialization problems. Remarkably, previous assessment attempts have resulted in a plenitude of explanatory diagnoses - ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, early childhood psychosis, mania, schizotypal personality disorder. In light of this diagnostic uncertainty, the evaluating team decided to take a more descriptive psychopathological approach. Thus, discussion began to heavily revolve around nosological categories such as Multiple complex developmental disorder or Evolutive disharmony. The aim of the case presentation is, ultimately, to draw attention to such clinical entities, which although absent from contemporary classification systems, often provide greater phenotypical precision, as well as allow for more clarity when discussing a child's impairments with caregivers.
