Aim
Emotion Dysregulation Inventory – Young Child (EDI-YC) is a 22-item parent-report measure that assesses two domains of emotion dysregulation in preschool-aged children: 1- Reactivity (15 items), 2- Dysphoria (7 items). The aim of the current study was to evaluate the factor structure and internal consistency of the EDI-YC Turkish version in a sample of autistic preschool children.
Method
Participants (n = 136) were parents of children with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. They were invited to fill-out the EDI-YC Turkish version. Parents rate each behavior over the past 7 days on a 5-point Likert scale (0 = not at all; 4 = very severe). Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was used for the construct validity of the AQ, and Cronbach's alpha was used for reliability.
Results and Conclusion
As a result of the exploratory factor analysis (EFA), the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) value was 0.926, and Bartlett’s test yielded a significant result (χ²(171) = 1851.071; p < 0.05). The EFA revealed that the EDI-YC consists of a two-factor structure, explaining 62.138% of the total variance. The two factors were labeled as reactivity and dysphoria. Analysis revealed that EDI-YC had excellent internal consistency (Cronbach alfa=0.959). Internal consistency of the Reactivity subdomain was 0.960 and of the Dysphoria subdomain was 0.851. These results indicate that the Turkish version of EDI-YC has excellent reliability and strong psychometric properties.
