Hypnosis is an efficient technique to help patients face symptoms due to severe illness and its treatment. However, still too often, hypnosis is not yet offered in teaching hospitals. This session, through the example of a Swiss teaching hospital, will reflect on the required conditions to introduce hypnosis successfully in an academic institution and promote this practice to become part of mainstream care.
We will present the example of different structured introductions of hypnosis in selected services, based on individual initiatives over the last 15 years. These occurred at first discreetly, and under a certain scrutiny from colleagues. Through the creation of an academic chair for integrative and complementary medicine, new perspectives have emerged at our hospital, heading towards a federation and wider spread of these efforts to use hypnosis in an acute setting. This project is now developing through teaching, training as well as practice regulation, and ongoing research.
The ESH Committee for Educational Programs in Europe (CEPE) is continuously working to improve the standards of hypnosis training. We want to encourage the use and the proper training of hypnosis within the health care systems to make a difference from the lay hypnosis training.
European Society of Hypnosis Certificate (ESHC) is awarded by ESH to professionals who have gained expertise in their field and are committed to the highest professional standards. The certificate is granted for 3 years and ensures in this way a continuous education.
ESH encourage Constituent Societies to become ESH Accredited Training Societies (ESH-ATSs) and follow a common pool of strict professional standards in hypnosis training. ESH ATSs have importance to ESH since they are authorized to give ESHC training.
We will discuss:
1) How to become a ESHC Holder
2) How to become a ESH-ATS
3) The advantages of being an ESHC Holder
4) The advantages of being an ESH-ATS
5) Hypnosis Research and ATSs
