Two young Swiss psychiatrists, Christian Müller and Gaetano Benedetti, frustrated with the treatment of schizophrenia, brought together like-minded colleagues to explore psychoanalytic approaches. For its first 40 years, ISPS organized triennial symposia where clinicians could exchange ideas. Back then, ISPS stood for the International Symposium for the Psychotherapy of Schizophrenia.
